The Big Dog Septic System has been partially assembled, and we hope the instructions below will help you complete the assembly and get the unit up and running.

1. In reference to the Water Inlet part, it is about 34 inches long with outlet holes on one end and a garden hose attachment on the other end. The holes are positioned so they will blast three water streams across the bottom to prevent the solids from packing to the bottom. This increases the digesting enzymes and bacteria's contact to the solids to speed remediation. This part exits the barrel above the water line and should not need to be sealed, but an application of silicon sealant would be a good idea anyway.

2. The Water Outflow part is made so the end of the eight-inch tube will be below the water line. This will prevent floating items such as grass and leaves from blowing into the drain field and causing problems. It seems that things get thrown into the unit that are not really intended to be there. This floating trash should be skimmed off and discarded. When you install the fitting make sure the rubber gasket is on the inside and you have applied a generous amount of silicon sealant to help create a watertight seal.

3. The 1-¼ inch Drain Valve comes with two steel washers and one rubber washer. Place one steel washer outside the hole and the other steel and rubber washers inside the barrel. The rubber washer should be against the barrel's inside wall. Place a generous amount of silicone around the inside wall of the hole before inserting and tightening the threads. You really want this part to have a watertight seal. We recommend letting it dry overnight and filling the barrel with water to make sure it is sealed.

4. The Air Stone is glued to a tile with waterproof glue. It would tend to float if it were not attached to something heavy. It is fragile; so take care not to break it when installing it to the bottom of the receptacle. The air supply tube should be glued to the air stone to prevent it from pulling loose. A very small amount of glue will do. You don't want to let anything plug the airway hole.

5. The Air Pump and Housing is weather proof. It is attached to the outside of the barrel.
